Veronica Roth announces new books set in the world of DIVERGENT. Sort of.

At BookCon this weekend, Veronica Roth announced Two new books set in that various Universe, beginning with the publication of sixth group this fall. These books are not sequels, prequels, or “interquels”, but are based in an alternate universe in which the series’ protagonist, Tris Prior, experiences an alternate history from the original series.
This isn’t the first time Roth has returned to his blockbuster series. More than a decade ago, Roth released FourA collection of stories about the former life of Tobias (Tris Pryor’s girlfriend) various series). While that book came out exactly a year after the last book various series, sixth group Comes after a full dozen years.
Roth has continued to publish regularly in the intervening years, with several new series and some standalone works. But none of them came close to success variousAnd the fizzle of the filmed version of that series has left the franchise in an awkward cultural position.
What do we call these post-Peak works that return to the original story, but don’t expand on it? At this point, we have a mini-library’s worth of examples: EL James, Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins, not to mention star wars, lord of the ringsAnd so on and so on. Creating a breakout series is hard enough, but it feels even harder to figure out what to do next.
