My Favorite Nonfiction Book for Creatives

Before I go into detail about this book, I want to recommend listening to the audiobook. If you do, you’ll get the pleasure of not only hearing Questlove’s words from his own mouth, but original music from him and the members of the Roots, as well as guest appearances from comedy legends Fred Armisen and Robin Thede and many other great people from various corners of the creative world. Listening to an audiobook is a holistic experience.
A multihyphenate member of the Roots, Questlove is one of those rare individuals who not only has great curiosity but also puts that curiosity to work. He approaches subjects, artistry and culture new to him with enthusiasm rather than fear. That’s why he became such a great teacher of creative philosophy, the real work that must be done with a passion if you want to make something of it, and the challenges we all face in our pursuit of achievement and growth.
If you are wondering, No doubt he can boldly travel to exotic landscapes with his numerous celebrity and expert contactsI understood. The point is, this book serves to share the insights she’s learned through access and privilege that most of us will never see. Furthermore, he was not born with that access, but had to be scrappy and resourceful to get to where he is today. Questlove’s generosity and heart inspire this book as much as the knowledge he has gained from a lifetime of asking all the questions and trying to develop a variety of expertise himself.
If you are doing any kind of creative work, I urge you to pick up this book. You may want to revisit this whenever you question yourself and your abilities or feel unmotivated.
